How to connect Cursor to Bybit
With TraderWAI, Cursor's Agent gets live market data and your Bybit account as MCP tools: get_ohlc for candles, get_quote, get_positions, get_broker_accounts, modify_position and more. Pull data into your project, prototype and backtest a strategy, check your positions and prepare orders with stop loss and take profit that you approve. One click or one entry in mcp.json, no API key.
Bybit: Crypto derivatives exchange, popular for perpetual futures.
Step 1: add TraderWAI to Cursor
Works in Cursor (Agent).
- In Cursor go to Settings → Tools & MCP → «Add new MCP server».
- Or paste the configuration below into ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
- Click «Login» / «Connect» next to traderwai and sign in with Google.
- Use the chat in Agent mode and ask for what you need.
Or paste this into ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in your project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"traderwai": {
"url": "https://mcp.traderwai.com"
}
}
}Step 2: connect your Bybit account
In TraderWAI go to Settings → Broker accounts → Add account and choose Bybit.
Create an API key in Bybit with only «Contract → Orders & Positions» (never withdrawals), ideally restricted to IP 187.7.69.7, and paste the key and secret.
Bybit works on the free plan: unlimited charts and analysis, and 5 order executions per day.
Step 3: ask Cursor
Open the chat in Agent mode and try, for example:
- «Use TraderWAI's get_ohlc to fetch the last 500 H1 candles of BTC/USDT, save them as a CSV in data/ and write a Python script that tests an EMA 20/50 crossover on them.»
- «Call get_broker_accounts and get_positions and write a short report of my open Bybit positions with the risk of each one.»
- «If any open Bybit position is at least 1R in profit, move its stop loss to break-even with modify_position. Show me the change before applying it.»
- «Run backtest_strategy on BTC/USDT: buy on H1 when a candle closes above the previous day's high, stop below that candle, 2R target. Then turn the rules into a function in my project.»
How Cursor works with Bybit
TraderWAI connects to Bybit USDT perpetual futures (longs and shorts) with an API key limited to orders and positions, and exposes it to Cursor as an MCP server. The leverage is the one you set in Bybit for each pair, and the stop loss and take profit are attached to the position on Bybit itself.
- In Bybit go to your profile → API → Create New Key → «System-generated API Keys».
- Give it only «Contract → Orders & Positions», never withdrawals, ideally restricted to IP 187.7.69.7.
- In TraderWAI go to Settings → Broker accounts → Add account → Bybit and paste the API key and secret.
- Bybit works on the free plan. To practise, switch to Demo Trading on bybit.com, create the key there and choose Demo in TraderWAI.
Example prompt for Cursor
«Show me BTCUSDT and ETHUSDT on H1 on Bybit. If ETH breaks below yesterday's low, prepare a short with a stop above the breakout candle and a 2R target, risking 0.5% of my balance.»
Every order carries a stop loss, is checked against your risk limits and waits for your approval unless you turn on auto-execution for that symbol.
What Cursor can do with your Bybit account
- Read live charts in any timeframe, with the indicators you ask for.
- Check your balance, open positions and pending orders.
- Backtest a strategy idea on historical data before risking anything.
- Prepare market, limit and stop orders with stop loss and take profit that you approve.
- Leave conditional orders that TraderWAI watches every minute.
- Respect your risk limits: maximum daily loss and drawdown, risk per trade, size and number of trades.
Questions
Can my own bot use the same data and account?
Inside Cursor, the Agent calls TraderWAI's tools while you work: it can save candles to files in your project and write and test code with them. For something that runs on its own, use TraderWAI's conditional orders, which are checked every minute even with Cursor closed, or connect your own agent to https://mcp.traderwai.com with an MCP client that supports OAuth. Every order goes through your risk limits.
Which TraderWAI tools can Cursor use?
All of them: get_ohlc, get_quote and get_chart for market data; get_broker_accounts, get_positions and get_account_info for your accounts; execute_trade, suggest_order, modify_position and close_position for orders; backtest_strategy for backtests and create_conditional_order for rules TraderWAI watches. Cursor asks before running a tool unless you allow it to run automatically.
What can Cursor trade on Bybit?
USDT perpetual futures, long or short, with sizes in coins (for example 0.01 BTC). Spot, USDC and inverse contracts are not connected.
Can Cursor change my Bybit leverage?
No. TraderWAI uses the leverage you set in Bybit for that pair, so set it there before trading. Your risk limits and the stop loss on every order still apply.
Why restrict the Bybit key to 187.7.69.7?
TraderWAI's requests to Bybit go out through that European server, so a key restricted to that IP only works for TraderWAI. Never enable withdrawals on it.
Is it free to connect Cursor to Bybit?
Yes. The free plan includes unlimited charts and analysis and 5 order executions per day.
Does Cursor place orders on its own?
Only if you want it to. By default every order needs your approval. You can also allow automatic execution for specific symbols, always within the risk limits you set.
Is my Bybit account safe?
Your credentials are encrypted (AES-256) and the key is kept on a separate server. TraderWAI only acts on your account as you instruct and never requests withdrawal permissions.
Does it work with demo accounts?
Yes, with demo and live Bybit accounts. We recommend starting with a demo.
