How to connect Cursor to cTrader
With TraderWAI, Cursor's Agent gets live market data and your cTrader account as MCP tools: get_ohlc for candles, get_quote, get_positions, get_broker_accounts, modify_position and more. Pull data into your project, prototype and backtest a strategy, check your positions and prepare orders with stop loss and take profit that you approve. One click or one entry in mcp.json, no API key.
cTrader: Fast execution and an open API; the most common ECN alternative to MetaTrader.
Step 1: add TraderWAI to Cursor
Works in Cursor (Agent).
- In Cursor go to Settings → Tools & MCP → «Add new MCP server».
- Or paste the configuration below into ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
- Click «Login» / «Connect» next to traderwai and sign in with Google.
- Use the chat in Agent mode and ask for what you need.
Or paste this into ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in your project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"traderwai": {
"url": "https://mcp.traderwai.com"
}
}
}Step 2: connect your cTrader account
In TraderWAI go to Settings → Broker accounts → Add account and choose cTrader.
Click «Connect with cTrader» and sign in with your cTrader ID. You don't share your password with TraderWAI.
cTrader works on the free plan: unlimited charts and analysis, and 5 order executions per day.
Step 3: ask Cursor
Open the chat in Agent mode and try, for example:
- «Use TraderWAI's get_ohlc to fetch the last 500 H1 candles of gold (XAUUSD), save them as a CSV in data/ and write a Python script that tests an EMA 20/50 crossover on them.»
- «Call get_broker_accounts and get_positions and write a short report of my open cTrader positions with the risk of each one.»
- «If any open cTrader position is at least 1R in profit, move its stop loss to break-even with modify_position. Show me the change before applying it.»
- «Run backtest_strategy on gold (XAUUSD): buy on H1 when a candle closes above the previous day's high, stop below that candle, 2R target. Then turn the rules into a function in my project.»
How Cursor works with cTrader
cTrader has an official Open API with sign-in through cTrader ID, and TraderWAI uses it: you approve TraderWAI on cTrader's own login page, so your password is never shared. TraderWAI then exposes your cTrader charts, positions and orders to Cursor as an MCP server.
- In TraderWAI go to Settings → Broker accounts → Add account → cTrader.
- You are sent to cTrader: sign in with your cTrader ID and approve access.
- Choose the account to use, demo or live, from any broker or prop firm that offers cTrader.
- cTrader works on TraderWAI's free plan: unlimited charts and analysis and 5 order executions a day.
Example prompt for Cursor
«On my cTrader account, show EUR/USD on M15 and H1 with the key levels. If price rejects resistance, prepare a sell at market with a stop above it and a 2R target, risking 0.5% of my balance.»
Every order carries a stop loss, is checked against your risk limits and waits for your approval unless you turn on auto-execution for that symbol.
What Cursor can do with your cTrader account
- Read live charts in any timeframe, with the indicators you ask for.
- Check your balance, open positions and pending orders.
- Backtest a strategy idea on historical data before risking anything.
- Prepare market, limit and stop orders with stop loss and take profit that you approve.
- Leave conditional orders that TraderWAI watches every minute.
- Respect your risk limits: maximum daily loss and drawdown, risk per trade, size and number of trades.
Questions
Can my own bot use the same data and account?
Inside Cursor, the Agent calls TraderWAI's tools while you work: it can save candles to files in your project and write and test code with them. For something that runs on its own, use TraderWAI's conditional orders, which are checked every minute even with Cursor closed, or connect your own agent to https://mcp.traderwai.com with an MCP client that supports OAuth. Every order goes through your risk limits.
Which TraderWAI tools can Cursor use?
All of them: get_ohlc, get_quote and get_chart for market data; get_broker_accounts, get_positions and get_account_info for your accounts; execute_trade, suggest_order, modify_position and close_position for orders; backtest_strategy for backtests and create_conditional_order for rules TraderWAI watches. Cursor asks before running a tool unless you allow it to run automatically.
Do I share my cTrader password with TraderWAI or Cursor?
No. Access is granted through cTrader ID on cTrader's own page, and you can revoke it at any time. Neither TraderWAI nor Cursor ever sees your password.
Does it work with my prop firm's cTrader account?
Yes. cTrader accounts from brokers and prop firms (for example FTMO, FundedNext or Pepperstone) connect the same way, with your cTrader ID. Check your firm's rules on automated trading before turning on auto-execution.
Is it free to connect Cursor to cTrader?
Yes. The free plan includes unlimited charts and analysis and 5 order executions per day.
Does Cursor place orders on its own?
Only if you want it to. By default every order needs your approval. You can also allow automatic execution for specific symbols, always within the risk limits you set.
Is my cTrader account safe?
Your credentials are encrypted (AES-256) and the key is kept on a separate server. TraderWAI only acts on your account as you instruct and never requests withdrawal permissions.
Does it work with demo accounts?
Yes, with demo and live cTrader accounts. We recommend starting with a demo.
